Child Marriage in Pakistan: Laws, Penalties, and Reporting
The legal framework against child marriage in Pakistan, including minimum age requirements, penalties, and how to report.
The Child Marriage Restraint Act 1929 sets the minimum marriage age at 16 for girls and 18 for boys. Sindh raised it to 18 for both genders through the Sindh Child Marriages Restraint Act 2013. Contracting, performing, or abetting a child marriage is a criminal offence punishable with imprisonment up to 2 years and fine. However, enforcement remains weak. If you know of a planned child marriage, report to the local police, the Child Protection Bureau (in Punjab), or the Women's Helpline (1099). LexForm assists in obtaining court orders to prevent child marriages.
