What is the minimum salary for a UK Skilled Worker visa?
As of 2024-25, the general minimum salary threshold is £41,700 per year or the going rate for the specific occupation, whichever is higher. Some occupations on the Immigration Salary List have lower thresholds. Health and care workers also have different rules.
How long does a UK visa application take from Pakistan?
Standard processing is 3 to 8 weeks depending on the visa type. Spouse/partner visas take approximately 12 weeks. Priority services (where available) can reduce this to 5 working days. Times vary seasonally.
Can I switch from a Student visa to a Skilled Worker visa?
Yes, if you have a valid job offer from a licensed sponsor and meet the salary and skill requirements. You can switch from within the UK without returning to Pakistan. The Graduate Route (2-year post-study visa) gives you time to find a sponsor.
What is the Immigration Health Surcharge?
The IHS is a fee that gives visa holders access to NHS healthcare. It is currently £1,035 per year for most applicants and £624 per year for students and health workers. It must be paid upfront for the entire visa duration.
What is ILR and how do I get it?
ILR (Indefinite Leave to Remain) is UK permanent residence. You can apply after 5 years on most work or family visas (3 years for some routes). Requirements include continuous residence, English language (B1), Life in the UK test, no criminal record, and meeting the salary threshold.
Can I sponsor my parents to come to the UK?
There is a route for adult dependent relatives, but it is extremely restrictive. You must prove your parent requires long-term personal care that cannot be provided in Pakistan, even with financial support. Very few applications succeed.
