Islamic Inheritance Shares in Pakistan: Who Gets What

March 2026 · LexForm Research · Muslim Personal Law; MFLO 1961

A practical guide to inheritance distribution under Muslim personal law in Pakistan, with examples of share calculation.

Under Muslim personal law, inheritance shares are fixed by the Quran and cannot be altered by will beyond one-third of the estate. Key shares: Wife gets 1/8 if children exist, 1/4 if no children. Husband gets 1/4 if children exist, 1/2 if no children. Daughters get 2/3 collectively (if two or more, 1/2 if one), sons get residue after fixed shares. Mother gets 1/6 if children exist, 1/3 if no children. Father gets 1/6 if male children exist. Daughters do not exclude sons. Both sons and daughters inherit, but sons take double the share of daughters. LexForm calculates exact shares and helps resolve distribution disputes.
