Maternity Leave Rights in Pakistan: What the Law Requires
Legal entitlements for maternity leave under Pakistani law, including duration, pay, and job protection.
Under the Maternity Benefit Ordinance 1958 and the Factories Act 1934, female employees are entitled to maternity leave. The minimum entitlement is 12 weeks (6 before and 6 after delivery) with full pay. Some provincial laws provide more generous entitlements. An employer cannot terminate a woman during maternity leave or dismiss her on grounds of pregnancy. If the employer fails to provide maternity benefits, the employee can file a complaint with the Labour Inspector or Labour Court.
