Trade Union Registration in Pakistan: Process and Requirements
How workers can form and register a trade union under the Industrial Relations Act 2012.
Any group of workers (minimum 2% or 300 workers, whichever is less) can form a trade union and apply for registration with the Registrar of Trade Unions. The application must include the union's constitution, list of office bearers, and list of members. Upon registration, the union acquires legal personality and can negotiate collective bargaining agreements, represent workers in disputes, and call strikes (subject to procedural requirements). The employer cannot interfere with union formation or victimise workers for union membership.
